Orthodontic treatment and diagnosis of patients is typically described in three categories or classifications.
Class 1 patients have favorable and proportional facial balance with crowding, spacing or other problems involving individual teeth.
Class 2 patients have a relative protrusion of the upper jaw ahead of the lower jaw. These patients may also have crowding, spacing or other tooth problems.
Class 3 patients have a relative protrusion of the lower jaw. Once again, crowding, spacing or other tooth problems may also be present.
